Peace Officer of the Year

     Peace officers play an integral role in the quality of life within a community.  Recognizing this fact, the Waverly Exchange Club recognizes an outstanding peace officer from Bremer County each year.  Winners of the Peace Officer of the Year are presented with an engraved plaque.

2015 Peace Officer of the Year

The Waverly Exchange Club recognized retired officer Dennis Miller of the Bremer County Sheriff's Department as the 2015 Peace Officer of the Year. Miller retired after 32 years of law enforcement work.

2014 Peace Officer of the Year

The Waverly Exchange Club recognized Officer Corey Stephens of the Waverly Police Department as the 2014 Peace Officer of the Year. Stephens was nominated by other officers Waverly Police Department.

2013 Peace Officer of the Year

The Waverly Exchange Club recognized Sumner Police Chief Dennis Cain. Cain was recognized by Matt Tiedt, Bremer County Peace Officer Association President. Tiedt cited Chief Cain’s self control, attitude, moral integrity, and calmness under duress during pursuit of bank robbers. Cain was injured during the incident and is still recovering from his injuries.

2012 Peace Officer of the Year

The Waverly exchange Club recognized Deputy Kyle Shores of the Bremer County Sheriff’s Office. Shores was nominated by a member of the Waverly Police Department. He has been a deputy with Bremer County since 2009. Prior to joining his current office, Shores was a police officer in Janesville and Waverly.

Shores was nominated for his high level of professionalism and  proactive approach to law enforcement. Shores is also highly involved in the Bremer County Peace Officers Association and has served as both the vice president and president of the association.
